How does Screen Printing work?
Screen Printing is the process of transferring designs onto material via a mesh screen & ink.
To put it simply, when a design is to be screen printed, a negative of the design is printed onto a mesh screen, this mesh screen will then be placed against the fabric. Once set correctly in position on the fabric, ink is rolled over the screen, and only the areas where the design is printed will the ink pass through. The ink then sets to the fabric by being flash dried or put through a drying tunnel to cure.
This process in then repeated for each colour within the design.
We require all designs and artwork to be provided in a vector file for screen printing. A vector file is a layered file. The are files which end in - AI, EPS, or PDF. All fonts are to be converted to curves/paths or font files are to be provided with your design/artwork.
How much does Screen Printing Cost?
Pricing for Screen Printing is dependent on a few things – the size of your design, how many colours are in your design, the quantity of garments being screen printing and if the garments are light or dark coloured.
There is an initial screen set up cost, for each colour within the design.
For example:
A 1-colour design that is white and screen printed onto a black t-shirt is 1 screen set up.
A 2-colour design that is red and blue and screen printed onto a black t-shirt is a 3 screen up. 1 screen for red, 1 screen for blue and 1 screen for a white under base. The white under base is required on the black t-shirt so that the red and blue colours show true & don’t bleed into the black fabric.
There is then the cost of screen printing the garments, this cost is worked out on the number of colours within the logo and the quantity of garments being screen printing.
Repeat Screen Printing orders are charged a screen re-set for each screen initially set up. This is because we re-use the mesh screens for our other customers. This is generally half the cost of the initial screen set up cost.
